For more years than most remember, Local 18 held its Semi-Annual State Membership meetings at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium. That building was demolished in 2015 to make way for the National Veterans Memorial and Museum.
The late Senator John Glenn led a committee of veterans with recommendations to build a facility that would honor American veterans and their families from all branches of the military and from conflicts throughout history. It will be the only such memorial in the United States. Photos, letters and personal effects, multi-media presentations and interactive exhibits will be on display.
Local 18 contractors working on the building include: McDaniel’s Construction, Maxim Crane, Columbus Steel Erectors, All Crane Rental, RamCrete and Baker Concrete.
The National Veterans Memorial and Museum is planning to open to the public in the summer of 2018.
